Wally At Wiener Nationals - Part 1

Wally ran in heat #6 of the Wienerschnitzel Weiner Nationals at Golden Gate Fields on April 10, 2010. Wally ran as number #11. Robert held Wally for the start of the race; I was to meet Wally at the finish line with his favorite tennis ball. Wally ran and ran (well diagonally across the field, and then ran backwards to check in with Robert,) he did not place in the race. But Wally wasn’t done yet. He was having so much fun out on the track he refused to leave it. Not sure if he wanted a re-run or just wanted to ham it up, but that’s just what he did. For what seemed like an eternity it was I, Robert and six race officials trying to chase down Wally. Wally was having a ball slipping and sliding out of our grasp, with the entire Golden Gate Fields crowd cheering Wally on every time he escaped us. “Go Wally, Go,” and laugher is all I could hear as we ran in circles trying to grab the Tube. Eventually Wally decided he would run into the winner’s circle and why not he stole the show. It was there the Tube was finally seized with a crowd of fellow Dachshund owners waiting to meet our naughty wiener.
